A collection complete in seven volumes of the works of Ãmile Augier, popular French dramatist in the nineteenth century. He was mainly known for his comedies, which praised the virtues of middle-class life, and often served a didactic purpose. Along with Alexandre Dumas, he dominated the French stage during the Second Empire. An early edition, this work originally published in 1889. In the original French and uniformly bound in a half pebbled calf and marbled boards. The present collection comprises: Vol. I: La Cigüe; Un Homme de Bien; L'Aventurière; Gabrielle; Le Joueur de Flûte; Sapho;Vol. II: Philiberte; La Jeunesse Diane; Paul Forestier;Vol. III: Le Gendre de M. Poirier, written with Jules Sandeau; La Perre de Touche, written with Jules Sandeau; Ceinture Dorée; Le Mariage d'Olympe;Vol. IV: Les Lionnes Pauvres written with Ãdouard Foussier; Un Beau Mariage; Les Effrontés;Vol. V: Le Fils de Giboyer; Le Post- Scriptum; L'Habit Vert, written with Alfred de Musset; La Contagion;Vol. VI: Maitre Guérin; Lions et Renards; Madame Caverlet;Vol. VII: Jean de Thommeray, written with Jules Sandeau; Les Fourchambault; Le Prix Martin, written with Eugène Labiche.Complete with half titles. With a library sticker to the front pastedown to the odd volume. Library minor inscription to the verso of the title page. Internally, firmly bound. The front hinges are starting to vol. III, may fail with further handling, the binding of vol. III only slightly loose, with pp. 23-6 loose but present.
