A collection complete in seven volumes of the works of Émile Augier, popular French dramatist in the nineteenth century. He was mainly known for his comedies, which praised the virtues of middle-class life, and often served a didactic purpose. Along with Alexandre Dumas, he dominated the French stage during the Second Empire. An early edition, this work originally published in 1889. In a half pebbled calf binding over marbled boards, with titles on a red leather label tot he spine, which has five raised bands. With gilt to the top edge. Externally smart with minor shelf wear only and a touch of edge wear, minor rubbing to the boards and spine. Library stamp to the verso of the front free endpaper, half title, and the odd other leaf. With a library sticker to the front pastedown to the odd volume. Library minor inscription to the verso of the title page. Internally, firmly bound. The front hinges are starting to vol. III, may fail with further handling, the binding of vol. III only slightly loose, with pp. 23-6 loose but present. The pages are generally very clean with only the odd minor spotting and some age toning, as usual. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
