Wells.The art of Sir Frederic Leighton (1830-1896) often depicted scenes of historic, biblical or classical important, and was both extremely popular and expensive during his lifetime. He also bore the shortest-lived peerage in history, dying a day after having been given it with the title becoming extinct upon his death.This is a limited edition, one of only sixty copies, of which this is number four.Collated with seventy illustrations to volume I, and seventy-two to volume II. With both tipped in illustrations and full plates in black and white and colour. In a quarter vellum binding. Externally generally smart, wear to the boards and extremities, a chip to the tail of the spine of Vol I running up the joint, cover of Vol I is a little faded, some scratches to the front board of Vol II.
