Title: New Experiments Physico-Mechanical Touching the Spring of the Air and Its Effects
Description: Oxford, H Hall, 1662. Leather. A scarce, second edition of Robert Boyle"s important scientific work. This volume is the first appearance of Boyle"s Law. Boyle worked hard to devise improvements on Otto von Guericke"s air pump or vacuum chamber.  His end result was the "machina Boyleana" or "Pneumatical Engine" which was finished in 1659. His account of the work was in this work. ESTC reference no R26549. Prior owner"s inscription to the title page, John Blakey. Plate at page II has been repaired and laid down. This is the second edition, published two years after the first. It contains the first announcement of Boyle"s law, being the relation of pressure and volume in a gas. This was Boyle"s most important achievement in experimental physics. Retaining the two engraved plates. The first plate has been repaired and laid down on linen.   Collated: this work is lacking the half-title, quires N-2A in part I and the medial and final blanks of M4 and O4 in part III. A slightly compromised copy of this important work. With 'A Defence of the Doctrine touching the Spring and Weight of the Air' having a separate title.  In a contemporary calf binding.
