Illustrated, with seven of eight plates.  Lacking plate III.  The plates depict the single barrelled air-pump Boyle and Hooke devised. Plate V demonstrates Boyle"s experiment of sucking water using his pump to the top of the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford. Boyle worked hard to devise improvements on Otto von Guericke"s air pump or vacuum chamber.  His end result was the "machina Boyleana" or "Pneumatical Engine" which was finished in 1659. His account of the work was in the first publication "New Experiments Physico-Mechanical".  This is a continuation from that original work. This continuation was written, as Boyle states to the preface, because he had "promis"d a Second part of it, or a large Appendix to itÂÂ-" ESTC reference no. R34411. Disbound. Externally, sound, with minor ships to the extremities. Internally, held by one cord only at page 6. Otherwise, the work is firmly bound. Pages are bright. Occasional ink inscriptions to the margins. Tidemarks to the base of all pages, heaviest to the first and last few pages, in addition to plates VI and VII most heavily. Lacking plate III. Occasional light scattered spots. Good Only .
