Title: The Bridge a Chapter in the History of Building
Description: London, John Lane, 1926. First edition. Cloth. The first edition of this illustrated study of the history of bridges. Written by architect and editor, Christian Barman. Barman studied architecture at Liverpool University from 1916 and was the editor of several architectural journals such as 'Architecture', 'Architectural Press', and 'Architectural Review&apos. He also wrote many works in railways. Illustrated throughout, with charming coloured plates and monochrome pen-and-ink vignettes by Frank Brangwyn. Brangwyn was an Anglo-Welsh artist, painter, illustrator and designer. The plates are of bridges from across the globe, with examples in Spain, Toledo, Bradford-on-Avon, Florence, Lyon, Germany and Moscow to name but a few locations. From the library of one J F Crace, with their bookplate to the front pastedown. This work looks at the bridge as a work of art, as a useful tool, and as an architectural feat. A charming, and informative work. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Small patches of damp staining to the boards. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown, J F Crace. Front endpaper has been neatly removed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: Frank Brangwyn. Very Good Indeed .
