Illustrated by Harry Dixon, a noted artist regarding natural history. Sir Samuel W. Baker was an English explorer, naturalist and big game hunter. He is considered a highly influential figure in Victorian hunting, beginning in the Scottish Highlands. When his work as a traveller led him to Ceylon, he began hunting overseas and consistently for the rest of his life across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Baker also left a wealth of knowledge in regards to the science of hunting weaponry, as well as his observations regarding the animals themselves. These detailed notes he put in this work, 'Wild Beast and Their Ways&apos. Wild Beast and Their Ways is considered a highly influential work regarding the animals featured, including elephants, boar and antelope. Uniformly rebound in a half crushed morocco binding with marbled boards. Externally in excellent condition with just slight rubbing to the extremities and the spine. The odd mark to the boards. Internally generally firmly bound although strained in places. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages and the fore edge. Pages roughly cut.
