Trajano Bocalini; Trajano Boccalini; Henry Early of Monmouth - I Ragguagli Di Parnasso or Advertisements from Parnassus in Two Centuries with the Politick Touchstone

Title: I Ragguagli Di Parnasso or Advertisements from Parnassus in Two Centuries with the Politick Touchstone
Description: London, Peter Parker , 1674. Leather. The third edition of Henry Carey's translation of this famous Italian satire. A very scarce work, particularly in this early edition. A very scarce translation from the original Italian by Henry Carey, the English nobleman. The Earl of Monmouth was the first to translate this work into English. ESTC No R19277. Collated using the ESTC collation, appears to be lacking the final 5 unnumbered leaves, 2 of which are blank. The other three leaves may have been publisher's adverts as the work itself is complete. The third edition, corrected. Trajano Boccalini was an Italian satirist. This work is his most important and is a satire on the writings of Boccalini's contemporaries. The plot sees Apollo represented as receiving complaints of all who present themselves and distributes justice according to the merits of each particular case. The Ragguagli was first published in 1612 and has seen numerous translations across several languages. In a full calf binding. Rebacked, with the original boards preserved. Externally, heavily rubbed to the boards. A little loss to the leather at the extremities. Hinges are slightly strained but firm. Prior owner's inscription to the title page, FF Goddard. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with just the odd spots. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
