The British Institution was a private society in London in the nineteenth century. It exhibited works of both living and dead artists, and admitted only connoisseurs. The institution was disbanded in 1867, and was located in Pall Mall. Written by Algernon Graves. Graves was an art historian and art dealer, specialising in the documentation of exhibition and sales of art. He also published a dictionary of works exhibiting at principal London exhibitions, the idea for which he formed when recovering from an injury, In the original publisher's cloth binding with the original price-clipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart. Very light bumping to the head and tail of the spine.
