Quick (1895-1978) trained at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London and specialised in wood engraving. She lived in Penzance and spent some time in Paris. She exhibited her work in London and Newlyn. This book which she wrote and illustrated, became a bestseller. In 1951 she moved to St Agnes, Isles of Scilly, where she spent the rest of her life..
