First edition, apparantly the second issue with the Chilean Dotterel as frontispiece; however, the plates appear well-coloured in this copy. A classic monograph of the family Charadriidae of the world. The hand-coloured lithographic plates are by J.G. Keulemans, printed by Hanhart/Judd & Co., and show birds which had not been figured before, or of which good figures were lacking. Wood engravings to text by J.G. Millais.Anker, 455; Nissen IVB 850.
