TERRELL, THOMAS. - The City of the Just.TERRELL, THOMAS. The City of the Just.
London, Trischler 1892. Octavo publisher's illustrated apple green cloth blocked in red and black; 20 plates by Everard Hopkins. A touch of foxing at the very end; a nice copy, especially for such a vulnerable binding. ¶ First edition of this melodramatic thriller 'with a purpose' which revolves around a goldmine stock fraud with a murder or so thrown in. Terrell was a lawyer and occasional journalist; wrote four novels, all of which come near enough to be thrillers, and the standard text on patent law; stood for parliament as a liberal and radical; and kept a family in England and another in France. Trischler started life as The Hansom Cab Publishing Company and pumped out mostly lowbrow stuff during its brief life - 1892 was their last year - little of which outlived the publisher.
