Title: Peter Rabbit and His Pa.
Description: Akron, Saalfield [1908?]. Quarto publisher's colour illustrated wrapper; 12pp, colour and b/w illustrations throughout by Virginia Albert. A used copy - rumpled and corners of the cover chipped - an about average copy it seems. ¶ A cute bit of not so much piracy as an object lesson in copyright. Potter's publisher, Warne, didn't register the copyright for Peter Rabbit in the United States but Saalfield weren't so silly. This is clearly marked copyright 1908. Saalfield weren't the first to pounce on Peter Rabbit (Altemus did that in 1904) but they owned Peter's father, even though he had been eaten before the first Peter Rabbit book. At least it isn't called Peter Rabbit and His Ma's Friend Uncle Roger.
