[NEW SOUTH WALES]. Report from the Select Committee on Transportation. Ordered, by The House of Commons, to be printed, 10 July 1812.
London 1812. foolscap folio disbound; 117pp. An excellent, uncut copy. ¶ Rare first of all, and the essential document on the colony at the beginning of the Macquarie era. An extensive examination of the workings of the colony with evidence from Hunter, Bligh, Alexander Macleay, Rev. Richard Johnson, Margarot, Flinders, George Johnson and others. Margarot stands out among the returned convicts questioned. Contrary to all the others his answers were fierce in their implacable condemnation of the whole system and the unrelieved brutality and dishonesty of all the military.
