The story of his life, including a section of his characteristic speeches, now for the first time gathered together by Theodore Taylor. London, Hotten 1864. Octavo publisher's cloth; mounted oval photo portrait, three other illustrations. With two illustrated Hotten catalogues. ¶ First edition. The first full biography of Thackeray, naturally enough dismissed by his successors. Why Hotten used a pseudonym is unclear. Obviously he wasn't sensitive to Thackeray's aversion to a biography and a reference to the upset Thackeray caused Henry and Theodosia Taylor seems too subtle. Perhaps, being Hotten, he just couldn't help himself. Offered for AUD 175.00 = appr. US$ 182.39 by: Richard Neylon, Bookseller - Book number: 5145 | |||
