Sydney, John Sands 1878. large octavo colour printed illust wrapp (chipped). ¶ An attractive production, particularly in the illustrated wrappers with the added appeal of the before and after advert for artificial teeth on the back. The book is usually seen in cloth and these wrappers are, I think, uncommon. Mostly verse, some short prose pieces, good natured and humorous stuff - pretty coarse and low really, this was the first of Gibson's three popular collections. Gibson insisted on the authenticity of his local colour, gained through years of hard work on station and in outback. As a solicitor? that was his profession.
