Description: London, Bell and Daldy, 1870. First edition. Purple cloth with extensive gilt decoratation on cover and spine, very attractive. 80 pp. with 20 photographic reproductions. This is a beautiful specimen of a Victorian art binding. It does show a wee bit of uneven discoloration on the cover, where it may have been shelved next to a much smaller volume. An early use of photographic illustrations. This 1870 edition, published a year after the first edition has twenty photographic plates, compared to sixteen in the first edition of 1869. VG- (Frontis is loose, but undamaged. Lower front spine gutter beginning to show fraying. Some very light scattered foxing.) .
