Title: Address to the Lotos Club of New York. December 13, 1913
Description: New York, Lotos Club, Publisher, 1913. Wraps. Light blue printed wraps. 19 pp. An address by Howard Elliott, chief executive of the New York New Haven and Hartford and New England Transportation Lines, discussing the impact of increased immigration into the United States and its effect on electoral politics. This includes potentially uneducated voters and the outcome in the presidential election. Elliott appears to be in favor of immigration and against curtailing it, viewing it from a businessman's perspective (ie. 'The world needs ditch diggers too,' line from Caddyshack). This discussion also wanders into legislation against businesses, wherein he appears to be in favor of limiting laws against businesses. The Lotos Club is a Gentlemen's Club in New York City, founded in 1870, and known for its artistic, literary and scholarly atmosphere. Mark Twain, among other notables, was a member. GOOD condition. Moderate browning along the extremities. Some soiling, minor staining and edgewear. Paper toned in the interior. Good .
