Pamphlet. 16 pp. An address by William Haile, then governor of New Hampshire to the New Hampshire Legislature, discussing taxes, appropriation of funds, laws, etc. Of note is his plea for less restrictions on suffrage, citing national concerns over the influx of immigrants to the United States. Haile also addresses slavery in the United States citing encroachments of it at the national level and arguing that all constitutional means must be used to stop it from spreading. The governor cites the lack of redress for enslaved people in the court of law, recently upheld by the United States Supreme Court. With an ownership inscription perhaps reading 'John Bartlett Du (?) ing.' GOOD condition. Square area of browning/offsetting on most of the center front cover. Minor pencil notations to the front page, with minor soiling. Light toning to the paper. Good .
