Title: How to Attain and Practice the Ideal Sex Life: Ideal Sex and Love Relations for Every Married Man and Woman
Description: New York, Falstaff Press Inc, 1937. Hardcover. Translation by Norman Haire. Small 4to. Brick cloth with gilt spine lettering. 397pp. Very good. Mild binding edgewear, with lower outer corner of front board a bit roughened; endpapers age toned. Apparent first English-language edition of this popular "how to," limited to a healthy 15,000 numbered copies (this #14,273). Like most sex guides of yore, every measure is taken to make it appear as medicinal, legitimate, antiseptic and non-prurient as possible to ensure it was not banned as obscene in puritanical mid-20th century America -- from stating "Intended for Circulation among Mature Persons Only" to noting on the facing leaf "It is intended for circulation only among mature persons, twenty-one years of age or over" and "This copy is registered at the office of the publisher." Its author is described, not as a sex researcher, but as "The Great Humanitarian Physician." Rutgers' dry-as-dust clinical approach is indeed medicinal and antiseptic. .
