BARKER, H.E. - Abraham Lincoln: His Life in Illinois -- Being Year by Year Incidents from 1830 to 1865

Title: Abraham Lincoln: His Life in Illinois -- Being Year by Year Incidents from 1830 to 1865
Description: New York, M. Barrows and Company, 1940. Hardcover. Small 4to. Tan cloth. vii, 64pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Very good. A tight, nice first edition. Ex-"Lincoln College Library / Lincolniana" copy, the sole marking being this light inkstamp on rear pastedown -- if it's gotta be ex-library, at least it's appropriate. An "Appreciation" is provided by Lincoln Fellowship of Southern California president Ralph G. Lindstrom -- which explains the nice autograph addition to this copy: Tipped to front pastedown is a nice Typed Letter Signed from Lindstrom, 1p, 5½" X 8½", Los Angeles, CA, 17 December 1948. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln/Civil War researcher). On "University Club of Los Angeles" letterhead, the noted Lincoln scholar and author sends "the happiest of Christmas Greetings and good wishes for the New Year to you and yours.. May the world receive enough of the Christ spirit to be willing to demonstrate for humanhood liberty under law as a means of assuring happiness and progress in the coming years and years," Signed simply "Ralph." Delightful and plentiful full-page sepia-tone illustrations all depict scenes from the then-just-released film "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" showing Raymond Massey as Lincoln, Ruth Gordon as Mary and so on. .
