Title: Signature
Description: This British poet, father of actor Daniel Day-Lewis, penned many verse collections over several decades ranging from his first book, "Transitional Poem" (1929), to "A Time to Dance and Other Poems" (1935), "Short Is the Time" (1945), "Pegasus and Other Poems" (1957), "The Gate and Other Poems" (1962) and "The Whispering Root and Other Poems" (1970), meanwhile writing a handful of pseudonymous mystery novels; in 1968 he succeeded John Masefield as Poet Laureate. Bold signature on a 5" X 4" slip, n.p. n.y. Near fine. Apparently a portion of a book's half-title page, since his name appears in print at upper left. Day-Lewis never hyphenated his last name when signing, and once noted, "As a writer I do not use the hyphen in my surname - a piece of inverted snobbery which has produced rather mixed results. .
