Very good. Binding a tad rubbed and faintly edgeworn, though internally near fine. Quite handsome probable true first edition of the first volume in the "Wig Wag Series" ("Faithful Fanny," "Circus January" and "Little Gray Sparrow" being the others) -- according to copyright year issued two years prior to the Whitman Publishing Co. edition of 1916 usually cited as the first edition. Hamming was an obscure publisher who seem to have issued a few titles in the years 1913 and 1914 only, which lends credence to this edition's priority over the Whitman edition. Interestingly, the printer's slug on rear flyleaf credits Western Printing & Litho. Co. on Racine, Wisconsin -- same city as Whitman Publishing, which begs the question whether Hamming Publishing Co. in 1914 had morphed into Whitman Publishing Co. in 1916.. In any case, all evidence points to the Hamming edition being the true first appearance of this title. Scarce as such. Text is white and bright and Lee's chromolithographs are spectacular and charming. .
