Swanberg (1907-92) was a popular biography nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his 1961 biography of Willliam Randolph Hearst, winner of that award for his 1971 biography of Henry Luce and winner of the National Book Award for his 1977 biography of Norman Thomas.
