Lengthy letter of appreciation regarding Sandburg's memoir about his early years -- with a fine ephemera addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is an original printed heavy stock invitation to "Carl Sandburg 75th Birthday Dinner" held on 6 January 1953 at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago. 8vo, 4pp, Inside left consists of Sandburg-inspired menu ("Pineapple Reckless Ecstasy," "Boneless Breast of Prairie Capon Stuffed with Illinois Wild Rice and Carolina Mushrooms," "Potatoes Flat Rock," "Paula Salad Chicago Dressing," etc.) and right side consists of two columns of the "Speaker's Table" noteworthies such as Benjamin P. Thomas, Allan Nevins, Ralph G. Newman (from whose collection this came), Sandburg's brother-in-law Edward Steichen, Paul M. Angle, David C. Mearns and others. Very good. .
