Description: Washington, DC, Adjutant General's Office, War Department, 1862. Handbill. 12mo. Very good. Minor binding traces at left margin. A handsome and lengthy (at three pages) General Order Order informs that "The Department of Virginia is extended to include that part of Virginia south of the Rappahannock and east of the Railroad from Fredericksburg to Richmond, Petersburg and Weldon. Major General Geo. B. McClellan, U.S. Army, will assume command thereof.." Also notes new commands for General John E. Wool and John A. Dix. Signed at the conclusion in type by Major General L. Thomas. Accompanied by a Civil War-era 5" X 8½" heavy stock steel-engraved head-and-shoulders portrait of McClellan. Very good. Moderate age toning. A pleasing pair. .
