Three issues of this annually-published yearbook from one of the country's earliest Civil War Round Tables (Chicago was the first) -- a group whose location guaranteed a "Who's Who" in their membership, officers and speakers: Bruce Catton, Karl Betts, Ralph S. Henry, Virgil Carrington Jones, etc. The first of these is subtitled "1957-1958 Season," the second "1958-1959 Season" and the third "1959-1960 Season," and each recaps the year's events, programs, trips and so on, complete with illustrations. Accompanied by a Typed Letter Signed from thr group's vice president REX W. MAGEE (1906-92), 1p, 8½" X 11", Washington, DC, 31 December 1958. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar ARNOLD F. GATES (1914-93), long-time officer of the New York City Civil War Round Table. Near fine. On letterhead of "The Civil War Round Table of the District of Columbia," which cites Magee as vice president, he chats cordially about various Round Table matters. Signed boldly in full in blue ballpoint. There's also a meaty Typed Letter Signed from one-time president KARL S. BETTS, 1p, 8½" X 11", Washington, DC, 17 September 1956. Same recipient. Near fine. On Civil War Round Table letterhead, Betts (first executive director of the Civil War Centennial Committee) discusses in detail some Round Table and other Civil War commemoration activities. Signed in full in blue ballpoint. Lastly, there's also a Typed Letter Signed from another of this group's presidents, J. GAY SEABOURNE (1896-1978), 1p, 8½" X 11", Washington, DC, 1956 July 27. Same recipient. Near fine. On Civil War Round Table letterhead, Seabourne discusses details of the production of the 1956-57 yearbook. .
