Description: This classical American pianist was a student of Harold Bauer and himself a respected teacher; his wife was concert singer Elizabeth Poole-Jones. IPS, 8" X 10", n.p. n.y. [ca. 1935]. Near fine. Handsome matte finish half-length portrait of a young Sheridan in pin-striped three-piece suit, seated with legs crossed, one hand clutching a cigarette and the other presumably a music score. In a dark area at lower right, Sheridan signs and inscribes boldly in white ink: "For / Richard Copley / In Sincere / appreciation / Frank Sheridan." Great contrast. Copley (1876-1939) Sheridan's manager, a well-known New York concert manager. A superb, brooding portrait by Arnold Genthe (1869-1942), renowned photographer, with his imprint at lower left. .
