A 2" maroon clown's hat cast of hard resin in bas relief is affixed to the rear pastedown, with the corresponding shape diecut out of every text page above that spot and into the front board -- so that the hat is visible even when the book is closed. It is worked cleverly into the illustration on each page of this clever tale of a little girl chasing a windblown hat, which of lands on the heads of various persons and animals before alighting on the head of -- you guessed it! -- the clown who lost it. Rand McNally reissued this title (without the 3-dimensional hat) in 1959 as part of their "Elf Book" series. .
