Title: Signed First Day Cover
Description: This Cleveland artist ("whose designs are among the most reproduced in the nation," according to one authority) is only the second female in postal history to have designed two U.S. stamps; in 1969 she designed the Alabama statehood stamp, the W.C. Handy stamp and the tuberculosis Christmas seals. Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Memphis, Tennessee on 1969 May 7 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Near fine. Single 6-cent "W.C. Handy Father of the Blues" stamp at upper right. Simple blue and gold "First Day Cover" printed cachet at left; no distracting recipient's name/address present. Near the center, above the cancellation, Kochan signs small but bold in blue ballpoint. .
