ANS in pencil, 1p, 5½" X 3½", n.p. n.y. [dated on verso 1890 August 25 in another hand]. Near fine. Courteous note on the blank verso of a portion of a note written to Peabody by what appears to be an incoming freshman. "When you arrive come to the University," notes Peabody," and inquire of the Business Agent, Professor Shattuck, who will tell you all about boarding places. If you care to be here by, say, Friday previous, the 12th, it will be in ample time to get everything settled.." Boldly signed in full. Oh for the days when a university president could personally advise new students! From the collection of University of Chicago geology professor Albert Johannsen (1871-1962), author of "The House of Beadle and Adams and Its Dime and Nickel Novels" (1950), the definitive reference work and bibliography on the subject. Johannsen's original 4" X 7" catalogue slip, bearing his printed "Collection of Albert Johannsen" label (partly filled in by Johannsen), accompanies this item. .
