Author: GRAHAM, William Alexander (1875-1954) Title: Signature and Inscription
Description: NOT the Whig party founder who also served as a governor, senator and secretary of the navy, but rather a U.S. Army officer renowned as a Custer scholar -- author of highly-regarded studies such as "The Story of the Little Big Horn," "The Custer Myth," "The Official Record of the Reno Court of Inquiry" and "The Colors of the Seventh at the Little Big Horn: Custer's Battle Flags." Choice inscription and signature on what's clearly a book flyleaf, 6" X 9", Pacific Palisades, CA, 1942 September 22. Very good. Light even age toning. "To my good friend / Nat Ferber -- / with the Compliments of / the Author -- / W.A. Graham / Colonel US Army / Retired. / Pacific Palisades, / 22 Sept 1942." Ferber (1889-1945) was a well-known investigative reporter for William Randolph Hearst's "New York American" newspaper as well as a biographer and novelist. An uncommon autograph -- ideal for the hardcore Custer collector. .
