Author: BRIGHT, John (1811-89) Title: Autograph Letter Signed
Description: This fiery English member of parliament and orator gained fame for his crusade for free trade; he also fought for Irish independence and fiscal and electoral reform. ALS, 2pp, 4" X 7", Rothdale, 1877 September 16. Addressed to W.H.I. Aubrey. Very good. Would be fine except for mounting trace along left edge. Envious note to a friend about to visit the United States; suggests a couple contacts (although he comments, "I have few friends or acquaintances in the States to whom I can give or send letters of introduction"), one of them financier Cyrus W. Field ("You will find [him] hearty in the cause of Free Trade."). .
