Title: Rights: Vol. X, No. 3 (July-August, 1963)
Description: New York, Emergency Civil Liberties Committee, 1963. Paperback. (Vol. X, No. 3). 8vo. Wrappers. 19pp. Near fine. Humanist, author, poet and civil rights champion Corliss Lamont (1902-95) served as chairman of this organization, one of his favorite causes, and a caricature of him graces the front wrapper of this issue, whose title is "ECLC's New Chairman." This particular copy belonged to contributor JOHN BEECHER (1904-80), the noted social protest poet and fine press publisher, whose poem "A Humble Petition to the President of Harvard" fills pages 10 and 11. Beecher placed checkmarks next to four lines, and a 3" X 3" yellow Post-It note written by Beecher's wife, artist Barbara Beecher, records that "J.B. checked off lines in poem -- breaks in lines were incorrect p. 10." She also pencils big and bold across the top of the front wrapper, "Marked Copy -- See Pg. 10." A choice association copy demonstrating this radical poet's commitment to various social causes. .
