A major retrospective of the Spanish painter Juan Gris (1887-1927), known for his Cubist still-life paintings. Born José Victoriano González-Pérez in Madrid, Gris moved to Paris in 1906, where he emulated the analytic Cubist style of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Experimenting with collage and colour, he helped to usher in the succeeding Synthetic Cubist style. Gris died prematurely at age 40 in 1927. This authoritative, well-illustrated MoMA catalogue confirmed his place in art history and includes less well-known aspects of his career, like his early caricatures and his later designs for Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. Profusely illustrated, with several colour plates. Very Good/Very Good. Offered for US$ 80.00 by: Left Coast Books - Book number: 014231 See more books from our catalog: European::8.
