Nuremberg was the center of the Renaissance in Germany and was its leading cultural and intellectual center until the end of the sixteenth century. It remained a leading city for the next two centuries. The Reformation, or civic legal code, of Nuremberg is known for its humanistic orientation and clear, straightforward language. It revised the code enacted in 1498 and was a notable influence on th development of law in the German states. Wolkern offers an extensive commentary on this code. The first part addresses civil and criminal law and has an extensive sub-section on currency and banking regulations. Part II deals with contracts, loans and other aspects of everyday commercial law. Part III is devoted to domestic life, discussing wills, property and other aspects of inheritance and succession. OCLC locates no copies in North America. Not in the British Museum Catalogue.
