Volume 13 (or volume 4 of the New Series) of THE CHAUTAUQUAN, a monthly educational magazine for the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle. Contains articles on a wide variety of topics, including a recurring section called the "Woman's Council Table." This particular volume contains a piece by Louisiana writer Grace King, titled "The Chevalier Alain de Triton," plus an article by Katharine Lee Bates (who wrote "America the Beautiful") titled "Woman as Scholar." The majority of the contributing writers are women. .
