A rare early record of a London friendly or mutual society, a subscription based institution which paid out relief to members for medical costs and sickness payments. The records here show many payments for lying in, funerals and medical expenses. There are some particularly poignant entries: Aug. 13. Mrs Bestow's lying in £2. Aug. 13. Bestow's Child's Death £1.
