O'Higgins, a social activist who portrayed his social and political ideology in his painting subjects, was an important figure of the muralist movement in Mexico, a founding member of the TGN and LEAR and friend of many art personages Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Leopoldo Mendez, Juan de la Cabada, Tair Salajov, Rodrigo Moya, Adolfo Mexiac, and others.
