Description: Berlin, Verlag der Bücherkreis GmbH, 1932. 24 x 17.5 cm. 135,[4] pp. Original clothbacked boards. lllustrated in b/w. - Design Jan Tschichold. - Erich Grisar (1898-1955) - German labor poet, journalist and photographer. - In 1932 his travel account 'with camera and typewriter through Europe' with 101 photographs was published by 'der Bücherkreis', a social-democratic book community in Berlin. The cover design and layout as well as the arrangement of the photographs was taken on by Jan Tschichold, representative of the new typography of the Bauhaus and one of the most well-known book designers of the 20th century. In 27 chapters, Grisar reports on his experiences on his travels to various European countries in a sober, factual observational style. Away from the usual tourist routes, he also explored the back streets, working-class districts and industrial regions of i.a. Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Warsaw, Venice, Marseille, and visited the former battlefields of World War I in Belgium.
