" the annual register, or a view of the history, politics and literature; london. This famous annual was the idea of edmund burke (1729-1797. Member of parliament, statesman and one of the greatest, if not the greatest, british orator of the late 18th century. Edited by robert dodsley but much of the writing, in the early years was credited to burke including the first long article "the history of the present war" which chronicled the events in the north american colonies known as the french and indian war. It is burke's views which dominate these volumes particularly on the north american colonies. He was sympathetic to the colonies and critical of the crown through the revolutionary war. It is suggested that this indeed was his reason for supporting and contributing to this annual publication.. Offered for US$ 275.00 by: Julian's Books - Book number: 6816 | |||
