At least I think it's a 1st ediiton; no statement of printing on the copyright page. 316 pages in an attractive/durable full-cloth binding, includes a couple pages of pictures and an Index. "..The Allied victors disbanded the German armed forces after World War II, only to press for the arming of the Federal Republic of Germany under the altered political conditions of the cold war. This book is the first comprehensive narrative and analysis of the efforts of German military professionals to discover for their new army an acceptable body of tradition in the proud, ambiguous, and at times criminal history of the German soldier." Decent copy: would be fine except 72 pages have light underlining, five pages have a note or two, and ten pages have light highlighting. Otherwise the book is in excellent condition with NO previous owner's signature/bookplate/other highlighting/other underlining/other notes/stamps. The dj is very slightly rubbed (more on back than front), very faint inner stain at bottom of back (no show-through to outside), upper corner of front flap has one short crease. Otherwise the dj is in excellent condition, also, with NO tears/chips. NOT an ex-library, NOT a book club, NOT a remainder. Very Good in Near Fine dj. Very Good/Near Fine.
