Miller. 1889, 1st Edition, 1st Printing. Hardcover. At least I think it's a 1st; no statement of printing on the copyright page. 216 pages, oversize hardcover with an illustrated heavy boards binding, full-color frontispiece and with a ton of great illustrations (all look like etchings), includes an Index. The natural history illustrations are especially good; many are full-page. Unfortunately the book doesn't identify the artists; some of the artists' signatures that I can make out: "R. Caton Woodville, 1885", "L. Chapon", "William Strutt", "Louis Wain", "R.A. (or "H.") Moore 86", "S.T. Dadd", "E.A. Tilly", "Montbard", "W.S. Stacey", "Giacomelli", "R. Epp", "K. Jahrmargt" and so on. Some fine artwork illustrating history, natural history, portraits, action scenes, like that. Condition: the bad news: the bindings corners are worn, the spine has been taped-over with what looks like duct tape (!), frontispiece and title page loose at the front, index and rear endpaper loose at the back. The good news: the rest of the pages are still attached and (since they appear to be printed on quality paper) with only light to medium browning (and some marking/small tears). So, the pictures and stories (the book also doesn't state who wrote the book) can be enjoyed. NOT an ex-library, NOT a book club, NOT a remainder. Poor, no dj issued?. Poor/No Dj Issued?.
