Dr. Sir Muhammad Iqbal (1876-1938), perhaps the most prominent Indian Muslim poet, philosopher and political thinker of the 20th century was one of the first to develope the idea of a homeland for Indian Muslims. He was elected President of the All India Muslim League in 1930.
