Mr. McGrew was an "ardent Presbyterian and elder in the Santa Clara Church" who helped organize and raise funds for a church to be built in Los Gatos. Not only did he help to organize the interested parties and work on committees, he was instrumental in procuring and installing the church bell. From the church history pages on line - "The church bell was procured by subscription primarily through the efforts of Mr. G. W. McGrew and was installed in the belfrey." (from the Church website).
