COLTON, F. BARROWS - Our Air Age Speeds Ahead

Title: Our Air Age Speeds Ahead
Description: Washington D. C.: National Geographic Society, 1948. Magazine. B&W Illustrations; This is a DISBOUND article from National Geographic Magazine. This is the actual article, not a photocopy. The text pages are clean, bright and without chips, tears, discoloration or wear. They do, however, have the necessary staple holes where staples were removed. The article consists of 12 double-sided pages of text and photographs (23 black and white photographs). The article is filled with tidbits of information regarding the newest types of aircraft and how they were used in 1948 including public transport (even sleeper flights for transatlantic passengers) , helicopters being used for crop spraying, rockets, postal service, bombers and other military planes, and others. While the commentary is not truly in-depth, it does cover a good deal of information and has a good slant on how the common man viewed aviation and the new technology that was coming along in 1948. There are nifty photos of some experimental planes --including the -Flying Pancake- and the -Flying Motorcycle- and some of the heavy bombers like the YB-49 and the XB-47. Overall, a very good copy.. Very Good .
