Two inserted black-and-white plates, drawn by Maurice Greiffenhagen. The frontispiece has the original tissue guard. ¶ This is the first edition (Hubin 306), with four pages of author's books, printed in two colours, preceding the title page (no ads at end of book). The spine is a bit sunned. The tips are bumped, and there is wear to the spine ends and tips. The boards are a bit scuffed & soiled. The inner hinges are split but there are not separating and the binding is tight. Some pages are lightly soiled in the margins, and a few corners are turned. Scarce title - reprinted a number of times but seldom seen in the first edition.
