Description: Amsterdam, Iohannes Rotterdam, 1733, 8vo., full parchment spitsel binding, handwritten title on spine, red and blue sprinkled edges, [14]+544 pp., some waterstains and foxing but overall the printwork is clear and the bookblock is solid with all spitsels intact, with engraved titlepage (de Putter sculp.) and some decorative initials and head and tail pieces. Gothic typeface. BOUND WITH:Abraham Magyrus, "Almanachs heiligen, of History der Opkomst, Voortgang, en Viering, van alle de Heyligen die doorgaans met Roode Letters in den Almanach aangewesen zyn, En door de Roomsgesinde met Gods-dienstige eere gediendt worden", Amsterdam (Amsteldam), Samuel Lamsveld, 1732, 8vo, [12]+426+[4] pp., vignet on titlepage, with some decorative initials and head and tail pieces. Roman typeface.From the collection of Jelle Kaspersma and Alie Vinke (2010). The first title was originally published in 1569, by Isaac Rabbotenu van Loven (pseudonym for Philips Marnix). In this book he speaks agains the Catholic Church, compairing it to a bee hive. Intruiging that it was bound with a book about the celebration of saints, in favour of Catholicism. Both titles are scarce and only available in a few libraries. The author is wellknown for having written the Dutch national anthem "Wilhelmus".
