Description: Lyon, Ioan. de Tournes, 1552, in-4°, 242 x 157 mm, xvi + 477 pp + (1)(bl) + (449-502) + (1)(bl) + (1)(printer'smark) + one engraved folding plate h.t. and numerous in-text wood engravings, modern overlapping vellum, not rebound, original bookblock retained, all edges gilt. Small library stamp on title, old owner's name in ink on title (M.j.Chavignac), second quire with clear old marginal waterstains, a nice and complete copy with a collation identical to the Millard copy. First de Tournes edition of Vitruvius; second edition with the Philander's notes (first Strasbourg 1550 in-16°). Guillaume Philander studied with Serlio in Venice and worked on Vitruvius in Rome in the ''Accademia delle Virtu''. See Millard n°165. with a commentary on the notes and the illustrations.
