Odd volume VI (of 7) of this still very source of knowledge about life and times of Jan Pieterszoon Coen, 1589-1629, hird Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies and his massive correspondence with the Directors (Heeren XVII) of the Dutch East India Company, V.O.C., by which a picture is painted of the history and development of early dutch settlement in the East Indies in the early period of colonization. This correspondence includes detailed information about finance, commerce, expansion to other parts of Asia, local and international politics, establishment of trade monopolies, exempting the British East India Comany, the conquest of Jacatra and founding of Batavia, the defeat of Sultan Agoeng (Mataram), and so forth. Very fine untrimmed and partly unopened copy. Rare.
