Hftitle (verso blank). 44pp. Chromolithographed plate, many black/white lithographed illustrations on 15 sheets (versos blank), with extensive captions at tails, all loosely inserted at end of volume, large folded lithographed track-map of Java, illustrating author's journeys, with concise key, all lithographed by Tresling & Co., list of illustrations, 2pp. dedication to author's friends. BASTIN/BROMMER, N. 648. Author's privately published account in 7 divisions of a number of journeys, done by foot, carriage, horse-back, rail and ship, through dutch colonial Indonesia around 1866. Each division is preceded by a french title (verso blank), original title with a chronology of events and visits, e.g. journeys through: East-and Central Java by foot; by steamer through the Moluccas; by foot through the Minahassa (Sulawesi); by foot through java from Banjoewangie via Anjer to Batavia; from the dutch East Indies to China, Japan and America; through North America; from Amsterdam to Paris and Vienna. The chromolithographfeatures a basket with indonesian fruit, 33 lithographed illustrations feature Java: european buildings and houses, court of Yogyakarta under sultan Hamengku Buwono VI (23 portraits); Princes of Solo; Serimpi and Ronggèng, local professons, traders and families, &c. Author, nicknamed Kees de Tippelaar, was a well-know and renowned public figure who untertook extensive journeys by foot across the world. Copy published not-for-the-trade, printed notice on ti.-p. A very good copy of a very rare and curous account. (unfortunately the lithographed plate of a frigate with signalling-flags is LACKING).
